Although I previously put up a post as to whether pork should be eaten or not, I have recently recieved a few e-mails asking for more information.
There is a big controversy over whether pork is safe to eat or not. My mom has told me that she doesn’t want to take a chance. There are people who have no problem eating pork right now.
However if you have kept up on the news then you would have heard the news that there are whole countries banning pork products. These countries are;
China- banned imports of pork and pork products from Mexico and 3 U.S. states that have reported cases of swine flu
Egypt- began to slaughter over 300,000 pigs as a precautionary measure, this began May 5th
Gabon- banned pork imports
Indonesia- banned all pork imports
Russian Federation- has imposed curbs on meat imports from Mexico, a number of U.S states and the Caribbean
Thailand- banned meat and pork products from some parts of the U.S.
Ukraine- has banned imports of live pigs and pork meat from countries where swine flu has recorded. All shipments received after April 21st will be subject to this ban
The CDC said, and I quote,
“Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?
No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.”
You will have to make the choice of whether you want to eat pork or not for yourself. I can not tell you what to do I can only give you my opinion.
Which is that you should not eat pork.
